A mixed bag for local community based soccer club kindly sponsored by The Galway Clinic Maree/Oranmore fc with a plethora of League and Cup games played for by a myriad of club teams.

Adult Soccer

The three adult mens teams were in action, the u21s opened their League account with a resounding victory under lights midweek against Corrib Rangers on a 7-2 victory with goals courtesy of a brace each from Sean Delany and Matthew Barrett and an excellent Eduard Balla hatrick.

The u21 League acts as as a successful bridge between youth and adult Football with nine club teams in a close competitive League. Several of the lads have made the progression to the clubs adult set up under seasoned manager Don O Riordan.

The adult Division three side under the watchful eye of the evergreen Hugh O Neill emerged victorious away to Cregmore/Claregalway on Saturday last and came away with a 4-2 win with goals coming from Dara Murphy (2),Sean Doyle and Cathal Fallon.

There was no such look for our clubs Premier side who played below par in a 4-2 defeat at home to Athenry fc. The goals were delivered by Kaelan Hickey and Matthew Barrett.

The lads know they will have to up their game next weekend away in the FAI Junior Cup to Mervue but undoubtedly the potential is there.

Competitive Boys Sides

There was mixed results for our u17 and u18 sides in FAI Cup action. The u17s played well under lights on Thursday night in Headford in windy and wet conditions on a good pitch and came away with a well earned 5-2 victory against Moyne Villa with goals from Killian Bolly, Ciaran Black(2), Gavin Smyth(pen) and Jake Corbett. They are away to Mervue in round 2.

The u18s played well in the FAI youth Cup on Saturday but excellent defending by the Renmore afc rearguard kept them at bay, the lads did not deserve to go down 2-1 having dominated the game. A penalty from Adam Lally was a disappointing return where several good chances were squandered.

There were good performances from Shane Cox, Liam Mc Donagh, James Whelan and Cian Horgan in defence while Caden Okuguni, Eoin Lyons and Kody McCann did their utmost to create opportunities for the Maree/Oranmore fc Lads. Good luck to Shane Cox who plays for Connacht Youths in Interpros this weekend in Galway.

The u16 Premier lads came from 3-1 down away to Athenry fc to defeat the hosts on a 4-3 scoreline in a fine team performance with goals coming from a Killian Bolly brace, Ben Costelloe and a Gavin Smyth penalty.

The u14 Premier boys played a thrilling League game against a good Colga fc side in a 1-1 draw on Saturday with Eanna Costello netting while the u12 Premier lads also shared a 1-1 draw away to Knocknacarra fc with Jonathan Smith netting in Cappagh Park.

The u12 div 2 side were pipped 3-2 in Maree by Cregmore/Claregalway while the u12 div 5 side beat Athenry fc 3-1 also in Maree with Brian McGrath getting them all for Dan Mc Cormacks charges.

Competitive Girls Sides

In Girls football, the u12s drew 2-2 with Knocknacarra fc at home on Sunday morning with Sarah Mc Cluskey and Sheenagh O Donnell getting the scores.

The u15 girls went down to a strong Athenry fc side.

The development of our girls game is a top priority for our club at present and the significant growth in numbers is a most positive club development.
